ISO 45001:2018
ISO 45001:2018 Introduction
Understand occupational health and safety management systems, worker participation and what certification involves
Introduction · 4 hours · Certificate does not expire
ISO 45001:2018 is the international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) management systems. It replaced OHSAS 18001, and the migration of certificates ended in 2021. This course explains what the standard asks of an organization, why it asks for it, and how an OH&S management system works in a real manufacturing operation.
You start with the shared foundations of management systems, then walk through ISO 45001 clause by clause: context, including the climate change additions from Amendment 1:2024, leadership and the OH&S policy, consultation and participation of workers, hazard identification and assessment of OH&S risks and opportunities, legal requirements, objectives, competence and awareness, the hierarchy of controls, management of change, procurement, contractors and outsourcing, emergency preparedness, monitoring, internal audit, management review, incident investigation and corrective action.
A sheet metal fabrication plant with press brakes, welding cells and forklift traffic runs through the course, with further examples from electronics assembly, aerospace machining and warehousing. You also learn how ISO 45001 relates to OSHA and other legal requirements, how third-party certification works, and what is expected from the revised edition now in development.
The course is written for people who need to understand the standard, not audit it. It teaches the management system standard; it does not replace the job-specific and site-specific safety training that OSHA standards or other laws require your employer to provide. On passing the final exam you receive a PlanetISO Certificate of Completion.
